Earlier today, esteemed rapper and producer @souljaboy became the latest celebrity to steal the attention of the crypto community by hosting his own memecoin Space on Twitter.
It began with Soulja reading comments posted by listeners and exchanging playful banter with himself. He asked about Satoshi Nakamoto, the legitimacy of the coins from Jenner and Iggy, and a host of other topics as he sought answers to his questions and advice on how to re-enter the crypto space.
But things took a turn when the self-proclaimed “king” of memecoins, Pauly, joined the space and was quickly brought up on stage. Despite Soulja’s only request being that nobody shill their own interests, Pauly’s first words were an endorsement for Pepe on Solana. He was then quick to rattle off a long and proud list of accolades, with his “call” of Ethereum's Pepe at $300K capturing Soulja's attention. And with no other listeners on stage at the time, Pauly had the floor.
Things quickly went awry as listeners became speakers, and they wasted no time gunning for Pauly. He was called a “scammer,” “grifter,” and “racist homophobe,” among other things. Pauly’s defense was always “what have you done,” “I’ve built this and that,” or “I called Pepe at 300K.”
Nobody denies Pauly’s claims, but it’s clear that it’s not just what you do that people care about, but how you do it. Listening to heated exchanges and observing the reactions of more than 50,000 listeners in the space, one thing became very clear: everybody hates Pauly.
Following his departure from Soulja’s space, Pauly started his own titled “Soulja Boy.” We didn’t catch much, but we did hear Pauly say, “the second you buy their token, they’re selling it into you.” We couldn’t help but wonder, isn’t this exactly what Pauly does? We've all watched him yuu…use his followers as exit liquidity.
Today's discussion serves as a reminder that although crypto is a space where only the strongest will survive, nothing is more fragile than the male ego.
