What inspired you to create John?
John draws inspiration from the average white guy, with no special traits, no character nor any specific talent, he’s just a random guy. His name is the most common and generic ever, and was inspired by the term “John Doe”, often referring to a random unnamed person!
This even carries out onto his clothing style, with a simple pair of jeans, a plain white tee and a pair of red generic sneakers. When it comes to memes, we wanted to stand out from other “memecoins” that only post random cats and dogs photos, and focus on making actually funny posts in the style of nub and other great coins killing it out there!
What's his story?
John is a simple guy. What makes him stand out from other coins is his simplicity. He isn’t special in any way and that is what makes him lovable! Anyone can identify as a John, John IS everyone! He also has a dog who appears from time to time, and, just like a lot of us, struggles a lot with girls, so his relationship situation right now is… complicated…
What does the team look like?
I started this project with a great deal of help from my buddy Avast, and we then expanded the team and welcomed Maskady, a good friend of ours, as the second artist and main animator! We also needed to cover different time zones as the three of us are in the same city, and added Maxi to the team to take care of raids and moderate the community with other admins!
How & when did you launch the project?
John was born on the 23rd of April, so the project is now two and a half months old and still thriving! We chose to launch on Raydium with the help of a dev friend.
How do you involve your community in the project?
Our community has many ways to engage in the making of John memes! Some assets are community made, and most of our assets are community suggestions or requests that we like to make right away! We have also hosted a meme contest with prizes, and little treasure hunts in our posts with rewards at the end! We believe it is crucial to involve the community in order to create a real culture around John, and to ultimately make John a legitimate meme that people use commonly!
We’ve also made cool tools for our community, like a profile pic generator, a library to sort and find our memes and assets, and a meme maker to create their own posts without any photoshop skills required!
How do you react when things aren't going your way? Do you re-assess anything?
We are very lucky in fact, we have such a great community that our chart has always felt organic and clean of pump and dump action! We’ve seen big whales come in and out, we’ve had big spikes when big names such as Beanie showed us support, and we’ve seen lower times like the big accumulation phase that we believe is starting to end!
But we’ve always kept working, in full transparency with our holders, and sometimes harder than usual, through harder times!
Our vision remains the same no matter the state of the market, and people seem to appreciate that!
What are some obstacles the team has overcome throughout the project?
Oh, we’ve definitely seen some times of struggle, with less activity in the telegram channel, less interaction with our posts and floods of bots, but we’ve always kept going and survived those times!
A healthy community will always go through days, if not weeks, of low activity with almost no one talking, but those times are never permanent if you keep showing effort!
How do you decide what content to create?
We like to react to global news and events and jump on funny trends! We also like to redraw or make our own version of popular memes or people, we call it “Johnifying”! We also brainstorm ideas with the team or community and try to make content that makes us laugh and would cheer up people! It warms our hearts when people come and tell us our posts make them laugh and feel like an actual meme page, because to us that is what it’s all about!
What are some exciting plans for the future?
For the near future, we plan to roll out more content, with more videos and animations as people love those!
When we reach a higher market cap, we have announced we would work on getting some dope merch out and use our marketing funds at its best potential to generate even more hype and keep a good momentum going!
Any advice you have for other projects pursuing the original content meta?
Well, I’d advise you to keep creating, that’s for sure, people need to see how much work you put in! I would also tell you not to stress about harder times, don’t let red markets discourage you from making dope content, sooner or later original IPs and memes will have their run!
Oh and also, don’t make meme contests with cash prizes unless you want hundreds of terrible edits of your coin logo on ai images as entries haha!
How has your vision/execution for the project changed since it started?
I think we’re still pretty close to our original vision, which consists in creating a lot of content for raids like assets and posts, and putting out as many quality memes as possible!
I guess what has mostly evolved is the quality of the content we put out, with a little more effort in some posts and videos, and yeah, the making of much more animated content as anticipated as people love video formats! Overall, John has evolved from being a random nobody to a beloved character to our community and that is the most important thing for us!
