Ask any two memecoin maxis what the next coin to hit $1B will be and chances are you won't get the same answer. But one thing everyone seems to agree on is that a memecoin bull run like no other is approaching. The gains will be astronomical. Millionaires will be made. Greed and FOMO will reach all-time highs.
So, with the impending memecoin madness, where should you put your money to maximize returns? Some prefer to trade low-cap "shitcoins" where the risk-reward ratio is extremely high. Maybe too high for a lot of people. Thousand percent gains are not uncommon, but neither is a flash crash to zero. One must exercise caution with this strategy as it is pure gambling in the most degenerate sense. Others prefer investing in tried-and-true projects that have been around for months, if not years, and are backed by trusted teams who have proven their worth. Regardless of which approach you take, the goal is the same: generational wealth.
Household names like Dogecoin ($DOGE) and Shiba Inu ($SHIB) have been around for years and are cornerstones of the meme coin movement. They are household names and part of the crypto conversation everywhere—from TikTok teens to your grandma's knitting circle. Other billion dollar coins include Ethereum-favorite Pepe ($PEPE), Solana mainstay Bonk ($BONK), and the newest member of the club, Dogwifhat ($WIF).
And so this brings us to the million (better yet, billion in this case) dollar question: which memecoin will be the next to reach a $1B market cap?
If you aren't familiar with the likeness of the big five that make up the billionaire's club, then it may come as a surprise that four of those five are dog memes. As cat memecoin enthusiasts will tell you, there are more cat households in the world than dog ones, and it's only a matter of time before one of the popular cat coins crawls its way into the top. As it stands, Popcat ($POPCAT) leads cat coins with a market cap of more than $350 million at time of writing. Other contenders include Cat in a Dog's World ($MEW), Michi ($MICHI), Wen ($WEN), MANEKI ($MANEKI), and quite frankly too many others to name. And perhaps herein lies the problem. With so many different coins, and new ones being created every day, is it possible that one can hold the attention of profit-chasers long enough to claim that billion dollar throne? That remains to be seen.
But it isn't just raining cats and dogs in the space. Solana memecoin phenomenon Book of Meme ($BOME), created by respected artist and self-proclaimed "Doodle Master" Darkfarms, reached a nearly $1.5B market cap within days of it's launch. It set the stage for a presale frenzy that took over the memecoin space by, like many others trends and memecoin charts, fell as quickly as it rose. Despite failing to break the $1B mark after quickly losing it, Book of Meme has kept its place as a mainstay in the Solana ecosystem and has steady risen from a $400 million market cap to the $750 million it holds today.
And you can't have a conversation about memecoins with mentioning other mainstays of the space, including PolitiFi leader Jeo Boden ($BODEN), "oh fuck" slip-up Slerf ($SLERF), content powerhouse PONKE ($PONKE), or Base's blue baller Brett ($BRETT). There are many others that could make their mark and perhaps deserve a mention here, but these are our standouts from the last few weeks.
No matter which memecoin you think will cross the $1B mark first or which one actually does it, one this is for certain: memecoins are here to stay. It is a phenomenon that has made millionaires out of magic internet money and is undoubtedly one of the greatest financial opportunities of our generation. So, hold onto your wallets and prepare for liftoff. In the wild world of memecoins, the next $1 billion sensation could be just around the corner and you're going to want to be ready.
